FRIDAY ON MY MIND

So today is another Friday. Where is the summer going to so fast? I can't believe it's more than half way over already! Where was I that it slipped by so quickly as time itself seems to be doing so much lately? So what do you have going on for your up coming weekend?

FRIDAY ON MY MIND was recorded by the Australian group the Easybeats back in 1966. In 2001, it was voted "Best Australian Song" of all time by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) as determined by a panel of 100 music industry personalities.

So what ever it is that you decide to do this weekend from having a hot time, SUMMER IN THE CITY, to HAVING A WILD WEEKEND, be safe, and have fun!

KNOCKING ON HEAVENS DOOR

I have been so busy lately with my writing that I feel like I'm brain dead and KNOCKING ON HEAVENS DOOR. I'm writing from morning to night. No wonder I don't get much sleep. My body may be tired, but the brain doesn't know how to rest. It's always got a new idea to tell me about!

KNOCKING ON HEAVENS DOOR was sung by Bob Dylan in 1973. It was recorded many different ways after this. Eric Clapton did his interpretation of it in 1975. Then in 1987, Guns and Roses brought their own unique style to this song. This song was done over so many times by so many different artists. It was like they were SEARCHING for the perfect way to record this song. As far as I am concerned the way Bob Dylan recorded it was the best. Yup, THOSE OLDIES BUT GOODIES still stands the test of time!

AM I THAT EASY TO FORGET

I'm back! I really didn't go anywhere. I've just been so busy with other writing projects that I'm working on. Writing in the morning. Writing in the evening. OH LONESOME ME! No social life to speak of except for me and my computer. My brain never leaves me alone. I'm always coming up with some new idea or topic to write about. It's FUNNY HOW TIME SLIPS AWAY when you're writing. You should see all the scraps of paper I have lying around the house with the "next big idea" written on it! YOU'LL LOSE A GOOD THING if you don't write things down especially when you have such an active mind like I do. That's the way I feel about it anyway.

Sometimes MY HAPPINESS is wrapped up in a piece that I wrote that makes me feel good. Like YESTERDAY, I started writing something first thing in the morning and finished it later that day. Oh well, I ramble. AM I THAT EASY TO FORGET was a song I remember hearing Engelbert Humperdink sing. It was a beautiful ballad about a forgotten lover. I want to know where such a nice looking guy got such a weird kind of name!

Have a "feel good" kind of day!

ONE

ONE was the first album of one of the most popular bands from 1969 - 1974. Led by lead singer Chuck Negron, "Three Dog Night" would go on to record 18 straight top 40 hits. ONE also was the bands first gold record. In 1976, IT'S OVER for the band but certainly not their music. When ONE thinks of classic rock and roll, surely "Three Dog Night" is on anyone's list of some of the best music of that era. MY WISH would be that all bands could be as good as this group was. IF YOU ASKED ME TO give you the name of any band that records today, I honestly couldn't tell you the name of ONE! That's how memorable they are! This is my opinion, but I'm an old fashioned girl who loves old fashioned classic rock music!

THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE

THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE was sung by Roberta Flack in 1969. It would become popular when it appeared in the film, "Play misty for me" starring Clint Eastwood. I must admit, it was never a favorite song of mine until I heard last years "American Idol" winner David Cook sing it. The lyrics were always haunting and moody, but when he sang them they became powerful and passionate. I have to say "David, YOU'VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES to make a song uniquely yours and memorable. You can COUNT ON ME to remain a fan of yours as long as your remain true to your own style of singing and presenting a song. Once you deviate from that, then IT'S OVER as far as your originality goes. So I'm hoping the studios don't change you. I GET SO EMOTIONAL listening to how you interpret a song because you truly make one feel what the song writer is trying to convey to his listeners.

HEARTBREAKER

HEARTBREAKER is from the 1973 Rollings Stones album, "Goats Head Soup." Mick Jagger was then and still is this skinny guy with the big lips that dances his way around a stage and he owns it. The "Stones" came to the United States from England on the heels and huge success of "The Beatles." Whereas, the Beatles were these clean cut guys on the block, the Stones were anything but. I would dare say that they were one of the first "bad boys" of rock.

Mick was romantically involved with some of the most beautiful women in the world. But if they hoped for a "forever" relationship with him, they'd soon find themselves singing, DON'T BREAK MY HEART AGAIN. If they expected him to tell them "MY HEART BELONGS TO ONLY YOU" then it was just a matter of time before they found out it didn't! LIKE A ROLLING STONE these types of guys "gather no moss".....or in this case no ties!

THE GUITAR MAN

So I was listening to some old music this morning and I came across this "oldie but goodie." THE GUITAR MAN was a song sung by lead singer David Gates of the group simply known as "Bread." This group began recording their music in 1970. They were not a band known for "get up on your feet" and dance kind of music. They were known for their beautiful ballads. The WORDS of their songs were beautifully poetic little pieces of gems. They were soothing to the soul.

The message of this song was about how the sounds of a guitar can make you happy or they can make you sad. Remember WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS sung by George Harrison? The guitar is the instrument that stands out from the rest when you're listening to a song. It can make make you tap your feet and DANCE TO THE MUSIC or it can make you CRY LIKE A BABY. Some times it makes you want to sing along with the music. FUNNY how time can slip away while listening to THE GUITAR MAN.
